Looking for a Book
Legendary coach and wrestler Dan Gable recently spoke at the Salesianum 59th Annual Alumni Sports Banquet. Along with a great turnout of current and past athletes and students, the Delaware wrestling community was well represented for the great chance to hear a legend speak locally.
Although forced to battle some technical (microphone) difficulties, the opportunity to hear Mr. Gable speak turned out to be worth it. In the course of his speech, Mr. Gable referred repeatedly to Heart of a Champion; a book by an Olympic pole-vaulter and minister, Bob Richards, also the first athlete ever depicted on the front of a Wheaties box. Coach Gable referred frequently to his copy of the book, and stated his current copy was the third he owned, and as he held it up, the old hardcover appeared to be held together by a thick rubber band.
When I got home that night, I immediately checked Amazon.com, only to learn the book is out of print, but there is one used copy for sale - for $300.00. I'd love to get a copy for my son and I - but not that bad. Does anyone else know of reprintings or additional sources for this book?
